Biography:

Casey Sams is an Associate Professor teaching Movement for Actors to both Graduate and Undergraduate students at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.  Her primary pedagogical approach is through Laban Movement Analysis, but she ‘borrows’ freely from other theatre disciplines as well as teaching dance forms (modern, jazz, ballroom and period dance styles).  Casey also regularly serves as a movement coach, choreographer, or director for UT’s resident LORT company, The Clarence Brown Theatre (although not usually all three at the same time). Before coming to UT, Casey was the Education Director for The Virginia Stage Company in Norfolk, VA, where she also taught for the Governor’s School for the Arts.  Her Undergraduate and Graduate degrees are both from PennState, and she completed her Laban Certification training in 1990.
