Judith Chaffee, AEA, and Professor Emerita at Boston University, is a dancer/mover, actor, director, choreographer; former Head of Movement for the BU School of Theatre. She is a graduate of Skidmore and Smith Colleges, holds a certificate of training from the International School of Comic Acting in Reggio-Emilia Italy, and is a RYT certified Yoga teacher. She was a choreographer /dancer/artistic director with Boston Dance Collective for over 20 years, and is trained in most forms of dance, including modern, ballet, contact improvisation, social and folk dance, and period styles. She teaches physical acting, alignment/release techniques, Commedia dell’Arte, period styles, Viewpoints, Laban, Meyerhold, Vinyasa Yoga, neutral masks, and composition/devising theatre. Judith has created work for theatre and opera in New England, and performed the role of Mother in the C.P. Taylor’s play, “Good” in Boston and NYC and created the character Rose Stanton in the movie The Inhabitants. She has two CD’s on Period Styles through Insight Media and maintains an information website on Commedia dell’Arte at www.commedia-dell-arte.com. Judith was awarded the 2011 Boston University Metcalfe Cup and Prize for excellence in teaching, and co-edited The Routledge Companion to Commedia dell’Arte with Olly Crick, published in 2014. She is a founding member of MERG(E), the Movement Educators Research Group, investigating foundations of movement training for actors.
