Joe Herrera, Founder & Acting Instructor of the Michael Chekhov Studio Orlando, has been a professional actor for stage, film and TV for over 20 years, distinguishing himself as an actor, director, and acting teacher/coach. Joe has served as teaching artist for various Public School theatre programs in the Central Florida area. He also served as a Dialogue/Acting Coach for film production companies. Joe’s educational background includes a Bachelors of Science from Columbia Southern University and a Master of Arts in Theatre at Regent University. Joe received his early theater training (Stanislavsky, Hagen, Spolin, Meisner, Strasberg, and Adler) at the City University of New York - Brooklyn College where he studied with actor/instructor, F. Murray Abraham. Joe received additional training with Janice Cavalier as a trained tenor, movement at the Broadway Dance Center in NYC, Meisner with Rus Blackwell, and stage combat. Joe is a National Michael Chekhov Association alumnus and Certified Acting Teacher, where he trained in the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique & Pedagogy with Master Teachers Lisa Dalton & Wil Kilroy. Joe achieved his acting teacher certification through the NMCA organization, and has been recognized as a Certified Acting Teacher of the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique. Joe has been teaching private acting lessons since 2005. Joe has helped his acting students, through the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique, overcome acting blocks, and plateaus so they may reach artistic freedom of expression in their artistry. Joe serves as the Founder and Artistic Director of the Michael Chekhov Studio Orlando, where he offers private and semi-private acting lessons for actors of all ages and levels. As an expert in his field, Joe looks forward to helping new acting students achieve their goals. Joe's teaching style is thought provoking, organic, emotionally inspiring, and psycho-physically driven. Students will be led through intuitive, imaginative, and psycho-physical exercises that strengthen mind-body connections to arrive at peak performances. As a director, Joe has directed actors and acting students in short plays, full length plays and musical productions; along with directing actors in original short and full length films. Joe Herrera is a proud member of Actors Equity Association (AEA), SAG-AFTRA, and of the Michael Chekhov Association (MICHA). He has appeared on theatre productions such as: “The Hating Pot", “The Resting Place", “Heart of the Earth: A Popol Vuh Story", “Nativity on the Square,” and "Ferdinand the Bull". Film roles include: Emmy Award-Winning short film “Revolving Child,” "The Girl in the Watermelon,” “SideKicked,” “A Christian Carol,” and “Let There Be Light,” with actor/director Kevin Sorbo. TV roles: “Ghostwriter,” "America's Most Wanted," “Dr. G Medical Examiner,” and "Law & Order." He’s worked on various short film projects in the southeast region, which has won various awards, and has also worked as a voice-over actor providing character voices for various animated projects.
