Adjunct Instructor - Theatre
Rebecca Frost Mayer is an adjunct instructor of theatre (movement, ballet for the actor) at Virginia Commonwealth University. She has worked as an associate choreographer to Patti d'Beck on VCU's Man of La Mancha, and as her assistant with Virginia Repertory Theatre's Mame and her musical theatre and movement classes. Additionally, Rebecca teaches private and semi-private tap lessons at VCU. At 2014's Southeastern Theatre Conference, she presented a tap dance workshop entitled "Tap Technique: Drills, Patterns, and Combinations." Additionally, she organized and taught workshops for the First Annual VCU Tap Mini-Fest. Choreography and directing credits include The Sports Page: A Musical Revue (VCU's Shafer Street Playhouse), RENT (Mt. Hood Community College), Fall of the House (Action/Adventure Theatre), Company (Boston University), Cleansed (Boston University), Broken Homes (Disjecta Gallery), Canta y no llores (Miracle Theatre Group) Good News! (Sandy Union High School), The Jungle Book (Parkrose High School). Rebecca was the founding artistic director of the Cascade Heights Dance Ensemble, a contemporary dance company for boys and girls in grades 2 through 7, in Milwaukie, Oregon. A cabaret performer and solo performance artists, her works combine tap dance, storytelling, and singing. NEAR AND DEAR premiered at Action/Adventure Theatre in Portland, Oregon in 2012. Other works include Happy Hour (Stark Raving Theatre) and And My Prom Date Was a Freelance Carney (Boston University). Acting credits include Hairspray (VCU), Lend Me a Tenor (Lakewood Theatre Co.), Diary of a Worm (Oregon Children's Theatre), Gypsy (Lakewood Theatre Co.), Sideways Stories From Wayside School (Oregon Children's Theatre), Canta y no llores (Miracle Theatre Group), Fall of the House (Action/Adventure Theatre), Company (Boston University), The Threepenny Opera (Boston University), A Month In the Country (Understudy - Huntington Theatre Company), Yerma (Boston University). Rebecca has worked as a writing coach and actor with Portland, Oregon's Playwrite Inc, which serves marginalized youth by providing playwriting workshops culminating in professional performances of the students' work. She has also led bilingual acting classes in El Paso, Texas. She holds a BFA in Theatre Studies from Boston University, and currently resides in Richmond, Virginia.
