Biography:

Robert Reid is a theatre director and a professor at Concordia University in Montreal (Canada) where he teaches acting and directing.  He has been studying Meyerhold’s biomechanics with Gennadi Bogdanov since 1996.  He also studied Jingju (Beijing Opera) at the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts (NACTA) in Beijing witn Suosen Lu.  His research focuses on theatrical traditions such as Biomechanics and Jingju in their relationships with contemporary stage practices and as potential models for theatre education today. He was recently the editor in chief of a theatre magazine on this subjet (L’Annuaire Théâtral No52 / http://www.sqet.uqam.ca/annuaire.html#dernieresparutions).   As a theatre director his work focuses on contemporary and classical works and his directorial credits include plays by Le Groupe de poésie moderne, Roland Schimelpfennig, Tankred Dorst, Shakesperare, Martin Crimp, Michel Vinaver, Edward Bond and Witold Gombrowich.  Mr. Reid collaborated recently with NACTA and Suosen Lu on a play (Peleus and Thetis) using Beijing Opera and Western staging techniques.
