Joan Bruemmer is an educator, actress, choreographer and dancer living in Boulder, Colorado. Focusing on creating new works and experimental physical based theater she has performed in, created and directed original work worldwide.  A long time practitioner and master teacher of Viewpoints and Suzuki she has also trained in Roy Hart voice work, Grotowski-based physical acting, Action Theater, Red Nose Clown, Comedy improvisation, Moment Work and Developmental Movement.  Joan has worked with many American Theater innovators including Barbara Dilley, Mary Overlie, Wendell Beavers, Meredith Monk, Moises Kaufman, Leigh Fondakowski and Steve Wangh.  She received her MFA in Contemporary Performance from Naropa University and her BFA in Theater from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts, Experimental Theater Wing. She is currently serves as interim Chair of the MFA Contemporary Performance at Naropa University. In San Francisco, her work as artistic director of Marijoh DanzTheatre, has been performed at ODC Theater, the San Francisco Edge Festival, San Francisco Fringe Festival, Women on the Edge Festival, Theater Artaud, Dance Mission and The Marsh. In New York as founding member of Phffft! dance theater company, she performed at The Kitchen, P.S. 122, St. Mark's Church, Theater Regenesis, ABCnoRio and St John the Divine.  She was two times an invited performer at the OFF Festival D’Avignon in France. Her work has been performed internationally as part of works in residence in Cologne, Germany, Rouen France, Amsterdam, Netherlands and International Theater Festival in Arezzo.  Her original work has been performed I n all five of the Boulder International Fringe Festivals, where her work was selected Pick of the Fringe for 2005, 2006 and 2009. Recent acting credits include Chablis in FINDERS KEEPERS LOSERS WEEPERS, Lydia in BIG LOVE, Arkadina in NINA LACUNA; M in CRAVE; One in STRIPTEASE.
