Director, Educator and Mask Maker
Tara Cariaso is a Baltimore-based theatre teaching artist who is passionate about physical theatre and mask performance. Founder of Waxing Moon Masks, Associate Artist and The Strand Theater of Baltimore, and new Everyman Theatre of Baltimore Teaching Artist, she has worked with Baltimore/Washington theatres such as The Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, Faction of Fools, The Strand, Mobtown Players, and Ambassador Theatre as well as west coast companies like The San Francisco Mime Troupe, The Dell’Arte Company and Sojourn Theatre Company. Tara received her MFA from the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre with an emphasis on Ensemble-generated work, her BA from UMBC in performance, and a by Savings Sidekick" href="http://www.bakerartistawards.org/users/view/taracariaso/">certificate of achievement for mask making and performance instruction from the Sartori Centro Maschere e Strutture Gestuali. Tara created the Waxing Moon Masks Company to introduce mask work to Baltimore actors and audiences. Waxing Moon offers education/consultation in mask performance and custom mask designs, and they have created nearly 100 original designs for clients around the world, and have collaborated with companies and classrooms across Maryland.
