Mairin Smit is a theatre and movement artist, teacher, and artist wellness educator. She is passionate about helping artists achieve balance and personal wellness throughout their performing careers. Mairin is the founder of Five Winds and the innovator of both the Post-Performance Recovery and Mindful Acting methods. She is the author of the soon-to-be-released e-book, Post-Performance Recovery, a practical how-to guide for artists on how to ground and re-balance their energy after performing. Mairin has an Honors B.A. in Theatre Performance from the University of Toronto. She is also a certified yoga teacher in Hatha, Restorative, Yin and Chakra yoga. She coaches artists privately on Post-Performance Recovery, and teaches workshops and courses on Post-Performance Recovery and Mindful Acting. She also coaches actors in preparation for auditions or performance, teaches workshops on physical theatre creation, and consults on script development, movement and theatre projects. Mairin is the co-founder and Artistic Director of Glasswater Theatre, an independent theatre company committed to fostering new methods of performance creation and exploring the intersection between reality and theatricality. Her work with Glasswater has received critical acclaim, being hailed as “far from ordinary”, “incredibly captivating” and “thought provoking”. Mairin is currently based in Toronto, Canada.
